Must have plugins and How to;

Deep Link Engine – This free plugin was developed by Alex Goad of Automatic Content. It is the newest plugin that I have been testing. What it does is scan your post to determine keywords (you can add or remove keywords), then it uses those keywords to find other blogs related to your post. You can add or remove sites. Once you have selected 6 or so posts to link to, select them and publish your post. The plugin will create a list of links at the bottom of your post linking to the other blogs you specified “related Posts”, or any custom title. By linking to other sites, you increase your incoming and outgoing links, which helps to increase your overall search engine ranking and ultimately get a lot more traffic to your posts. A word of caution though, use this tool cautiously. A half dozen or so links is powerful to boost your ranking, but too many will have the opposite effect. Further, you need to ensure you only use the most relevant keywords for searching for related blog posts. The higher your relevancy the better your ranking. To many irrelevant links will been seen as spam and will actually result in poor ranking. This plugin is free, it is a portion of the new launch of Alex Goad’s Auto Content Cash Launch. This is a new system that he just developed that claims to automate content creation and blog development and ranking. He is pretty well known name in the industry, so the product is probably good. So far, I have only tested the free plugin and I am quite impressed with how well it works!

WordPress Plugin How to and Must have Plugin List (all Free)

Installing WordPress Plugins is pretty easy, especially with the latest updates to the WordPress platform. Many plugins are available on WordPress’s website. Many others are also available through various developers websites. The ones on WordPress’s website are inspected and varified safe by WordPress. This doesn’t mean that if  you find a plugin not listed on WordPress, that it is not safe. Many plugins exist that are not submitted to WordPress for inclusion in their directory, so are never tested by them, but they are stable and safe none the less.

WordPress Plugin How to Install

To install a WordPress plugin do one of two methods;

The easiest way is to load it as a zip file from the WordPress admin area. Generally when you download a plugin it is already in zip format. So all you have to do is download the plugin you want to your computer. Then from the WordPress admin dashboard click on “plugin”, then click “Add New”, then click  “Upload”, click “browse” and find the file you downloaded, select it and upload. Once it is done, WordPress will give you the option to activate your new plugin.

A more complicated way to install a plugin is to download it to your PC, unzip it, then upload the plugin to your plugin directory (within “WP Content”) with your favorite ftp program (I use FileZilla, but there are lots of good freebies available).  Once uploaded, you can log into WordPress admin area, click “plugin”, then find the new plugin and activate it. You can sort and search your installed plugins with the tabs.

Many plugins have settings that you can customize.Where to find the custom settings varies by plugin, but generally it is within the settings tab of the WordPress admin area. Sometimes the plugin will create its own tab and sometimes it`ll place the setting within another section. You may have to hunt around a bit to find its settings.

WordPress Plugin how to customize settings

How to customize the settings of a plugin is usually fairly easy. If you can`t find its settings tab within the WordPress admin area, you can go to the plugin author page for instructions.

Navigating your WordPress Admin backend is greatly simplified with the plugin”Ozh Admin Drop Down Menu”. This plugin makes it far easier and faster to reach the different functions of the WordPress admin area by creating drop down menus for each function category.

WordPress Plugin s Every blog should have

The following are some of the plugins that I use on all my WordPress blogs. They each have a job of either simplifying and making WordPress more user friendly or optimizing some function or task that is necessary when promoting a blog.

All in One SEO – This plugin is a big one. It helps you in a big way to optimize your website (blog) for the search engines. It does this by creating a custom url for new posts, custom description (that shows up in search engine results), custom indexing set up and a host of other advanced seo applications. It is worth while taking some time on the authors site learning how to best set this plugin up.

WordPress Automatic Upgrade – WordPress is constantly updating and upgradings. Upgrading WordPress manually is not recommended unless you know what you are doing. For the rest of us, this plugin makes the upgrade process as simple as clicking one step to the next. It also works to automatically update most plugins. Make sure that when you do upgrade to download and save the backup files that it creates, just in case.

Tweetables – This simple little plugin adds a Twitter field to the top of each post. You can set it up to automatically tweet your new posts as you publish and it gives your visitors an easy way to reTweet your post. You need to enter your Twitter account info into the settings before the plugin will work. This can be done from the WordPress admin area.

Subscribe to Comment – This plugin gives your visitors the ability to be notified when new comments are added to a post. This is helpful to enable visitors to remain active within a conversation on your post by letting them know when there is a new comment so they can come back and decide if they have anything else to say.

RSSupliment – This plugin enables you to add a footer to your RSS feeds. This is great for adding a copyright to your feed and helps to create a more professional “feel”.

OnlyWire – This plugin is both useful for your website and for your visitors. It give a host of options to automatically bookmark your blog. People that have an Onlywire account (free) can bookmark your post to a large list of sites, with one click. And then of course, you can do the same. Its a simple and fast way to get your new post noticed by surfers and indexed by the spiders.

Google XML Sitemap Generator plugin – This plugin will create and submit your sitemap for you. It updates each time there is a new post and automatically notifies Google to ensure it is indexed right away.

CommentLuv – This plugin is great for “sharing the love”. What it does is check a commentors website that they enter into the comments field. If the website referenced is a blog, it will automatically pull the title and link to the last post at the bottom of their comment. This gives your visitors an extra little reward for commenting on your blog, a second backlink.

FixBack – This plugin will ensure that you do not lose visitors to broken links. If a link to your site, or an internal link, no longer exists, the plugin will keep them on your blog and inform them that the link is broken. Generally when this happens, a visitor would be redirected to the hosts page (such as Hostgator in my case) informing them that the page does not exist. From this page there is no option to go to the homepage or even see your sites header. Using this plugin, you ensure that your visitors will always see your header and blog layout associated with any domain address with your main domain within, even when they click a broken link. Further, broken links found by the search engine spiders has a negative impact on ranking. With this plugin, the spiders will not find any broken links on your domain.

These are the plugins that I have found to be most useful for my blogs. They help simplify what I have to do and increase my search rankings. I am always on the hunt for good plugins. Do you know of any that I have not listed here? Please share your favorite plugins or share your thoughts on any of the ones I have mentioned here.
